New year - Hobby Resolutions 2018

Hello out there whoever still read this! It's been a couple months since my last update and not much has happened on the hobby front. After "finishing" The Greenboyz I didn't get much more painted in 2017.

The last tabletop gaming I did was playing in 2017 was at Underworld Cup where I decided to quit playing Blood Bowl.

Okay maybe not entirely... though I do feel the need to cut it out of my life for a bit. I had some of the worst luck I have ever had in that event and it was just an onslaught of misery. Lots of fun hanging out with my friends but the time spent in game was pretty dismal. Maybe we'll see things turn around after I attend Adepticon this year and play in the Stupor Bowl for the first (and last?) time.

Most of the fall/winter was spent passing my college courses. And I accidentally ended up with a piece in a monthly art show too?

Self Portrait 2017 - Charcoal on paper
Still chipping away at an illustration degree! This next semester will be spent studying Photoshop and illustration history. While I am still not entirely enthused by any of my work I am learning things as I go. Have a couple comic projects in the works that I am excited about for 2018 and beyond.

On the gaming/painting front I did manage to get a game of Gloomhaven going with some friends. We're about 4 scenarios in and having a lot of fun. I'm playing the Brute character who likes to smash things first and ask questions second. His name is Sledghe.

This box is over a foot thick and weighs about 30+ pounds
Most of the party beating on the first boss encounter
In what has become an annual tradition it is time to look back at the 2017 Hobby Resolutions and set some new ones for 2018. From last year...

  • Play games more regularly (I played games here and there. I wouldn't call it regular)
  • Paint at least one miniature to tabletop standard each week (I didn't paint one mini each week but I did paint well over 52 minis over the course of the year)
  • Don't buy more miniatures than you paint (Yeah... not even close)

Alright so one out of three isn't so bad right? Now here is a list for this year!

  • Play games more regularly:
Games with Furry, games at events, Gloomhaven almost weekly should have this covered.
  • Paint at least 52 minis to tabletop standard during the year:
And keep track of them! I feel like having a visual record of the work is important and helps motivate me (and possibly others) to get those minis painted!
  • Finish painting at least one Warhammer army:
Most likely this will be my Nurgle army. I have a great start on it. Just need to buckle down and paint some of the larger pieces and new stuff.
  • Don't buy more miniatures than you paint:
This will be tough but I have managed to hold off on many minis I already want. I don't think I will be able to go without picking up the CMON Hate minis going up on Kickstarter this month. And the new Nurgle stuff coming from GW will also get me for at least a few.
  • Update this blog weekly:
Should be easy with photos of painted minis and regular gaming right??
Of course working against all of these things are - life, work, school, band, reading, and drawing! Looks like I will have to be better about using my time (and watching less crappy TV).

...on to the next - 2017 Gaming/Hobby Resolutions.

2016

This year will be a year that goes down as a fairly bleak one overall. In stark contrast my personal life has been quite good! While I managed very (very) little gaming and hobby time I did accomplish quite a lot in my first year in a new job, made time for creating and playing music, started pursuing a degree in art/illustration, and the bit of gaming and hobby time I did manage to squeeze in was quite fun.

I didn't make any specific resolutions last year though I did have a few I kept to myself. They were:
  • Make time for games and have fun while you are doing it:
Seems obvious but sometimes even doing the thing you like can seem like a chore or a bother if you are not in the appropriate frame of mind. This happens to me more often with RPG games.
  • Paint as many minis as you can and don't buy more:
Well that was a fail. It is truly a disease. I have quite the collection of unpainted but assembled minis now and I intend to start cranking through them in 2017. I'm hoping my new painting setup will help.
  • Attend all three Blood Bowl majors:
Done! I did average/bad at Zlurpee and Chaos Cup but quite respectable at Underworld with Ogres. Looking forward to next year with new players and teams/rules coming from GW!
This year I  have a couple goals/resolutions I would like to achieve:
  • Play games more regularly:
I don't have a group of regulars I can pester into playing so getting games in requires a bit more arm twisting of friends and family. Hoping to get at least one solid game in each month of 2017. This seems achievable.
  • Paint at least one miniature to tabletop standard each week:
Worst case I end up with 52 painted minis at the end of the year. I am leaving this open as I tend to bounce around on projects and I want to allow myself the freedom to paint what looks like the most fun and fulfilling project at any given time.

  • Don't buy more miniatures than you paint:
Best case I won't buy any miniatures but I know that isn't likely to happen. If I can paint quickly I can buy more otherwise... no way.

Also have plenty of school work, band time, work, and general life stuff to accomplish during the year but these three goals seem reasonable. Here's to the end of 2016 and the beginning of 2017!

New Year same as the old? - 2016 Hobby Resolutions.

Hi. Randroid here.

Not going to go line by line on all the resolutions I made last year and failed. Let's just say I could have done better.

2015 was quite an odd one for me. I did a lot of stuff and also did not do a lot of stuff. Big things of note:

- Started a new job at the end of 2014 and opened a new business early in 2015.
- Almost exactly one year after starting the new job I quit and began a different job at another employer.
- Started working on my own pizza business in between all that and sold quite a few at various places around my town and the response was good.
- Did not update this blog. Did not attend any gaming events (only 2 Bloodbowl tournaments and one of them was an event I co-run with Furry). Did not paint many models (haven't really painted any since August). Did not play any games (with the exception of a stalled out group for Mordheim and AoS Warhammer).
- Started a band with my better half.
- Broke my computer and have been without one for 6 months or so.
- Failed to continue my weekly metal radio show the Grind in the process. Stopped broadcasting online as well as at the local community station.

All of that could signal a bad time, and there were bad times involved, but overall it was a year of building and getting things in order. Gaming is a huge priority for me still and one I want to have in my life but my previous job schedule kept me from having much of a social life (getting up at 4am daily tends to do that).

So on to 2016!

I still don't have a computer but I hope to remedy that in the next month or so. Most of my "extra" funds were going to musical equipment but we have what we need for our band now so that should slow down.

I have tons of models and games to play! Working on getting a bi-weekly RPG game rolling with some old gaming co-horts and I am really excited to pick that back up. Also have several new games I want to find time to learn and play.

So how does this blog fit into all of that? Not sure quite yet but I will keep posting here as much as I am able and desire to do so. Hopefully you'll stick around and if not... best of luck to you all in 2016 and beyond!!!

A New Year - 2015 Hobby Resolutions.

Well it is 2015 already!? Man time really moves. Hard to believe it has been a year since I last wrote a list of hobby related resolutions back in 2014. I suppose the first order of business is to revisit them!

A list of things I resolved to accomplish with my hobby in 2014:
  • Update this blog at least twice a week all year: (FAIL) - Well I tried for a bit, and I was making good progress too, but eventually the accumulated RL stopped me from getting this done. While I did manage to play more RPG games and board games I didn't catalog any of those experiences here on the blog. Nor did I get nearly enough beer reviews up!! I have quite the back log waiting to be posted...
  • Finish painting all of the Blood Bowl teams I have started: (FAIL) - Not even close. In actuality I don't think I finished even one additional team!! I blame the not really attending any tournaments this year and not having a local league at the moment.
  • Play some WHFB somewhere, somehow: (FAIL) - Nope. While I did manage to get out some of my WoC minis and assemble and paint them I didn't get a single game in. I did have plans to do so a few times!! That sort of counts right? I did manage to build and mostly paint a Mordheim warband and play a short test game of that though.
  • Attend as many Blood Bowl tournaments as possible: (WIN) - "as possible" being the key here! I did get to go to ZBX which was a lot of fun and Chaos Cup too. Aside from those and Dog Bowl here in Kalamazoo I didn't do too hot on getting out to tournaments with any regularity. A combination of not having money to travel and not being able to get time off for work really stuck it to me this time around.
  • Paint something just for the heck of it: (WIN) - Well I count my Rebs faction from Deadzone here as I painted it up (and built a bunch of terrain) without any plans to play the game nor any players to play it with! Just liked the look of that faction and wanted to see them painted up.
  • Start cataloging the various game design/theory/ideas I have as they come up: (FAIL) - Didn't manage to do this exactly as I had written out but I did start and mostly complete a design document for a game I have been working on throughout the year as inspiration strikes. Hoping to get it more fleshed out and playtested this year and possibly even released!?
Well there you have 2014 and my hobby resolutions in a nutshell. Not the greatest nor most productive of years but I am not displeased with my progress. At least I have a few minis painted that weren't painted last year!!

Now... on to this year's 2015 Hobby Resolutions!

The future is looking good...
  • Spend at least 15 minutes every day working on hobby:  Something I have been trying to do anyway so it makes sense to put it on this list. Those 15 minutes a day really add up! Especially when things like a new job/new routine/new year conspire to eat up my painting and modeling time.

  • Finish painting at least one of the Blood Bowl teams I have started: Well I couldn't manage to paint them all this year but I should be able to at least finish one!! Right!?!

  • Play some Mordheim and/or Deadzone: Got the minis, they are painted, just need time and players. It shall be done!!!

  • Attend at least 4 Blood Bowl tournaments: I managed to go to that many in 2014 and it didn't feel like enough. This year I will make it to at least that many and maybe more?!

  • Prototype and playtest "the game" I have been designing: Cool idea, fun gameplay mechanics, at least in my mind. Need to get it on the tabletop and see how it works in reality.

  • Update Drinkin' and Modelin' at least once a week: Totally doable and should be the minimum requirement for having a blog anyway!!!

And there we have it. A list of things. Good things! Happy things! I will feel so awesome and accomplished when I manage to get them all done with zero FAILS on my list at the end of 2015. Here is to the future and hoping you have a great one too.

Tavern Talk - New Year Resolutions.

It's the first Tavern Talk of the new year!

Kuffy asks:
"The new year is here, time for all those promises you make to the 'hobby gods', friends and family about your hobby.  It is time to admit them to the blogosphere, to share with us all the resolutions you have made for Fantasy in the new year.  What are your plans for the up coming year?  What goals do you hope to achieve for 2011?"
Before I dive into my plans for the new year I thought it would be interesting to see how I fared in my resolutions for 2010. So with that in mind let's take a look at what I was so "resolved" to accomplish and how I fared.

  • Be a better sportsman:  I think I did pretty well here. I learned to love the games I play and not get as caught up in the competitive aspects, but there are still ways I would like to improve more with this. I sometimes get caught up in a "downward spiral" when things aren't going well for me and that brings down the mood of most games pretty quick.
    Verdict: WIN

  • Finish painting my Vampire Counts WHFB army:  I didn't even come close to finishing this one. After getting my army assembled, based, and primed I stalled out on the painting front. This was compounded by my move across country and the general lack of WHFB community in my hometown.
    Verdict: FAIL

  • Begin work on my Warriors of Chaos:  I did start building a unit of Marauders/Beastmen and even got test paint on a few models but overall I sort of stalled out here. Part of my problem was trying to decide on a theme for my WoC force. I really love the idea of Malal but I am quite tempted to go with a Khornate force now.I expect more work to be done on this army during 2011, most likely before my VC get any additional love.
    Verdict: WIN?

  • Learn 40k and start or don't:  Played a few games of 40k before I moved away from Austin and won them all. Overall I just can't get that excited about 40k as a tabletop game. I like a lot of the fluff/theme/setting and some of the models get me really pumped but as a game... I decided not to bother (now at least). Instead of 40k I started playing Blood Bowl instead!
    Verdict: WIN

  • Build some terrain:  I didn't even get started on this. The idea of building terrain interests me but as I don't have a gaming table right now (nor anyone to play on it) this resolution stalled out before it ever got started.
    Verdict: FAIL

  • Release four issues of the Bellower:  We did it! It was a tooth and nail event that came right down to the wire but I did manage to wrangle up enough content for four issues last year. It will be difficult to make it happen this year but I am willing to give it a go.
    Verdict: WIN
  • Attend as many tournaments as possible:  I only managed to attend Adepticon for WHFB and I didn't make it out to any other events (although I had planned on going to a couple Blood Bowl tournaments). The biggest reasons for not accomplishing more here were economic and work/time related. I am hope to do better this year!
    Verdict: FAIL?
What was my final tally for the 2010 resolutions? Well counting the questionable verdicts we're looking at 4 wins and 3 fails. Not bad!

So what does 2011 have in store for me? An even busier professional life (opening a brand new grocery store that is four times larger than our current location), a general lack of hobby funds (meaning I will have to get very creative with the bits and pieces I have sitting around), and working hard to build a larger gaming group (I have Blood Bowl for now but I am lacking any real WHFB community). With those things in mind here are my resolutions for 2011:
  • Finish all the Blood Bowl teams I have started:  I currently have one Nurgle team fully painted and three other teams in various states of completion. I would like to get my Amazon (Bloody Marys), Orc (Trailer Orc Boyz), and Ogre (Bulltimore Bullies) teams finished this year. I also recently picked up a few models for a Lizardmen team so that is in the books too... lots to do!
  • Play on the tabletop more:  Gotta find some time to get down to the FLGS for some pickup games, out of town to tournaments as time and funds allow, and maybe even ramp up the "at home" gaming action in small ways. I want to play more games!!
  • Stop buying and start painting more models:  I did a pretty good job of this last year (without a formal resolution) but I want to be even better about it this year. I have plenty of models which need paint and there is little reason to buy more (with a few exceptions... like my WoC army).
  • Don't start any new tabletop games:  Unless there is suddenly a huge swell in local gaming around one tabletop game I vow not to start anything new. I'd love to get some Mordheim action going, and the Wyrd and Privateer Press games/minis have been taunting me, but...
  • Be an even better sportsman:  I want to be someone people like to play, knowing they are in for a fun game, and not someone people are dreading being around. Small incremental improvements are okay as long as I am always striving to have more fun in games.
  • Get another four issues of the Bellower released:  This one will probably be the most difficult thing on my list. I know the coming months will see a drastic reduction in the amount of hobby time I have, let alone time to edit/write/create/communicate enough to get this webzine assembled and released four times during the year. I'd love help if you are reading this and have any interest at all!!
That is quite a list... we'll see how I fare next year! In the meantime keep an eye peeled for periodic updates on my resolutions as time goes by. What do you hope to achieve in your new year of hobby?

2009 - A hobby year in review.

2009 was a busy/productive year for me and my hobby but also a trying year for me personally. Major life changes punctuated by a lot of hobby firsts makes a review of the year a fitting theme for this update:

Hobby
  • "Completed" the painting of my first WHFB 2,250 force - my Beer Gut Tribe (Ogre Kingdoms). I still need to go back and touch up and finish the paint of a few models, but this was a big milestone for me (couldn't have done it without the help of my gnoblar painting champion Franki).
  • Participated in my first WHFB tournament, including my first IGT event. In the local tournament scene I finished 11th or 12th, just shy of the top 10. Not bad for a newbie playing Ogre Kingdoms!
  • Played about one game of WHFB a week on average, sometimes two or three. I would still like to play more but finding the time to do so is not always easy.
  • Played in the first round of 'Ard Boyz and placed second. I wasn't able to participate in the second round but I passed my place off to a friend (Mike G) who took Beasts of Chaos and managed a second place finish in round two - a moral victory for me.
  • Collected and built my second WHFB army, the Vampire Counts. Working on the painting now, but I plan on having these done soon so I can begin on my WoC and Beastmen forces next.
  • "Built" a gaming table for my home. I still don't have any good terrain though, just a few pieces of painted foam with flock (something I need to remedy next year).
  • Read a whole bunch of Black Library books, both Fantasy and 40k related. Maybe next year I will find the time to add reviews of them all to the site!
Blog/Community
  • Joined many WHFB online communities, spent countless hours answering questions, collecting and sharing information, and discussing tactics and army lists. Probably spent too much time doing this but I did make some internet "friends" along the way so I can't complain too much.
  • Greatly increased the post amount on this blog, and gained many new readers/followers along the way. Thanks for reading, and please don't be shy with the comments!
  • Joined the BoLS blog community and discovered a lot of great (new to me) sites in the process.
  • Began moderating the Ogre Kingdoms section of the BattleReporter forum. Not super busy there but the small community is very friendly and helpful. You should check it out!
  • Pitched, planned, organized, and laid out the first issue of the Bellower - the first (and only) Ogre Kingdom webzine. First issue should be out in the next few weeks! Most exciting.
  • Became a part of the Stronghold Guard - a moderator for the Ogre Stronghold. I can honestly say I wouldn't be half the player or hobbyist I am today without the support I have received from the kick-ass community there. Looking forward to a new year of Ogre greatness!
  • Started brewing my own beer, something I have had to put on hold for the past few months but will take up again once I have moved and settled back in. Lots of beer reviews sitting around too, I should find the time to add them to the blog.
And there you have it, the short list of my accomplishments in this year of hobby. It seems less exciting when I see it listed in bullet points, but I have still come much farther than I thought I would. Here's to another year - new challenges, new armies, new location, new (old) friends, and a new gaming community. It should be interesting.

In other totally unrelated news - take a look at the new tattoo I got the other day (and my incredibly pasty white arm).

It is a raven done in a slightly modern Haida style. The raven is your classic "trickster" god/spirit, and now he sits on my shoulder looking me in the eye. You can never tell what he is going to want me to do ...

Last Tournament of the year - Ogre Dark Horse list.

Last tournament of the year, and this season, happens tomorrow at BattleForge Games. This one is for placement in the "Tournament of Champions" next month. As of this writing I am 11th in the rankings and I need a place in the top 9 to participate. This year's events have really put a damper on my first (and last in Austin) tournament season but I am hoping to have a good showing tomorrow to squeeze into the finals.

Tomorrow's event is a "Hobby" tournament which means that painting score and some light comp are involved. That should make for some "soft" lists but since it is the last tournament of the season I expect to see some nasty stuff on the tables still.

With that in mind here is the list I will be playing during tomorrow's three games:
LORDS:
Tyrant – Heavy Armor, Luck Gnoblar, Cathayan Longsword, Beastkiller, Greedy Fist, Wyrdstone Necklace, Greyback Cloak (311)

A now "classic" build - I have been using this loadout for my Tyrant almost all year and I love it. It is a more defensive build but I have yet to lose a challenge with it. Destroying magic weapons is something I love to do. My biggest success was eating a Frostblade but I almost always manage to eat at least one magic weapon each game. The Tyrant is deployed in the unit of Maneaters with the BSB and Cookbook Butcher.

HEROES:
Bruiser – BSB, Heavy Armor, Sword of Might, Gnoblar Thiefstone (194)
Butcher – Bangstick, Dispel Scroll (180)
Butcher – Halfling Cookbook (155)

Nothing too crazy here. BSB has the SoM for a little extra wound potential and Wraith killing. The Thiefstone is good for initial magic defense before I can get my Gut Magic buffs up on the Maneater unit. This is the first tournament list I have taken with the Cookbook and I have to say it is pretty cool. Played two games today with this list and the Cookbook spared me a couple wounds (about 1 a game) but I am still not sure I would take it over a Dispel Scroll in a more competitive list.
CORE:
Bulls x 4 – Champion, Bellower, AHW (186)
Bulls x 4 – Champion, Bellower, AHW (186)
Ironguts x 4 – Champion, Bellower (222)
Gnoblar Trappers x 9 (54)

How did I live with my Ogres before I started playing with Champions!? They have saved my ass on so many occasions since I don't know if I can go back to playing without them. In a game against WoC today I cleared off an entire army and only lost 3 Ogres thanks to the Champions. Running these units a little wider with 4 wide instead of 3. Makes for more attacks but also means I have to commit to a charge - not a lot of room for error.

SPECIAL:
Leadbelchers x 2 – Champion (120)
Leadbelchers x 2 – Champion (120)
Scraplauncher (165)

I stopped shooting with my Leadbelchers and I haven't lost them in the past few games. I often find the threat of the shots is enough to keep units at a distance. I use their shooting ability only when I think I can weaken or destroy a unit, usually in the case of flyers or Fast Cav. Scraplauncher has been a real disappointment the past few games, almost always scattering 8-10 inches away from my target and misfiring about once a game. Here's hoping it does better for me tomorrow!

RARE:
Maneaters x 2 – GW, Heavy Armor (180)
Slavegiant (175)

Fairly minimal Rare selection but you need a unit of Maneaters to use as a character delivery system. The Slavegiant is fun and I have him painted so he makes the list. In a more competitive list I might drop him for more Maneaters but he has been doing really well lately and seems to enjoy jumping up and down quite a bit.

Total Points: 2,248 (of 2,250)
Not really my "ideal" list but I wanted to ensure all of my models in play were painted as I lost a third place spot during the last tournament because they weren't (stupid Hunter...). In the two practice games I played today the list performed well so I expect to win at least one or two of my games during the event. Here's hoping I can go all the way and grab a spot in the finals!

Since I am a dark horse to win tomorrow's event, and place in the top 10, I thought a review of a Dark Horse beer would be appropriate. Here is one I really enjoy from the Dark Horse Brewing Company out of Marshall, MI. I'll be adding photos of each beer as I review it so those reading at home can track down the ones they wish to try.

Dark Horse Brewing Company - Dark Horse Crooked Tree IPA

Beer Type: American IPA

Appearance: 12 oz. brown bottle with an off-white label and a picture of a crooked tree. Beer poured a hazy amber with a thick off-white head that left plenty of lacing.

Smell: Some fruity aroma (apricots or oranges?) at first, followed by floral hops and some malt. Smells damn good!

First Drink: Sweet malt followed quickly by a sharp bitter hops. Oddly refreshing!

Mouthfeel: A little dry but not overly carbonated which makes it work.

Last Drink: Not a lot going on here, just tastes like a damn good IPA. A little bit more "dark" biscuit flavors are coming through in the aftertaste along with more of the bitter hops.

Drinkability: Can't complain! It tastes like a better (more refined) version of the first homebrew we made! 6% ABV makes the time fly while drinking a few.

Notes: Drank this on a recent trip back to my home state of Michigan. Then I drank it again. Then I brought some back to Austin with me. Now I want more and can't get it here. Oh well, I have something to look forward to when I move back home!

Verdict: 4.25 out of 5.

Tournament results - a hard luck story.

Well the tournament I attended yesterday went well overall, although the ending may haunt me for weeks to come...

Got to the store to find one of the regular players had locked his keys (and army) in his vehicle. Made a quick call to my insurance company and got a truck to come out and slim jim the lock. All was well and I felt a surge of good karma come my way. Had a cup of coffee and I was ready to take on the Warhammer world!

I left my camera at home. Crap. Without my camera I didn't bother to keep track of everything that went on in my games but here is a "short" recap of the important moments as I remember them.

Game 1 - Eric's Lizardmen
  • Eric (nice fellow who I had never played before) brought a fairly tame Lizardmen list. Lord on Carnosaur (always bad news for Ogres) but not with Blade of Realities (can't recall what his kit was), Scar-vet on Cold One, level 2 Skink Priest, and a Skink Chief on Ancient Stegadon with the Stegadon Spear. The rest of the list contained one unit of Skinks with blowpipes, one with Javelins, one unit of Cold One Cavalry, and two blocks of Saurus Warriors - one with spears.
  • My entire focus during deployment was to avoid the Carnosaur with my mini-star and go for the Cold One Cav and Saurus.
  • He had less to deploy and I was able to avoid his Carnosaur by placing my Maneaters with characters last.
  • Deployment looked (mostly) like this:

  • Everything moved up on Turn 1 (with the exception of the Scraplauncher and Hunter).
  • On Turn 2 my Trappers in the woods on the left passed their Terror test against the Carnosaur (awesome).
  • Leadies moved up on the left and blasted away some Skinks that were screening the Carnosaur.
  • Scraplauncher scores a direct hit on the unit of Saurus with Spears but only kills 1 Saurus.
  • The Maneater unit charges the Cold One cav who flee 4" and are caught and killed.
  • Slavegiant redirects its charge into the Saurus w/ spears, Yells and Bawls and keeps the Saurus tied up for a round.
  • Ancient Steg w/ Skink Chief attempts to charge the Slavegiant's flank but can't fit in between the two Saurus units sideways and moves backwards instead.
  • Meanwhile on the far right flank the unit of Bulls charges the Skinks, loses one to stand and shoot before winning combat and chasing the remaining Skinks down.
  • The Hunter and Trappers keep the Carnosaur busy while the Skinks move towards the Maneater's rear.
  • Skink Priest drops a Comet on a unit of fleeing Leadbelchers, the Sraplauncher, and Hunter. The Hunter survives while the other two units are destroyed.
  • Trappers move up and kill the Skink Priest with sharp stuff in revenge for their fallen Gnoblar brothers.
  • Maneaters charge the Saurus unit to help back up the Slavegiant (who is down to 2 wounds remaining), kill two ranks on the charge and proceed to chase down the fleeing Saurus and kill them.
  • Skinks get their revenge by shooting the Slavegiant to death who then falls on the Skinks and kills the remainder of the unit.
  • The Ironguts flank charge the remaining baited Saurus unit (with Scar-vet), win CC, and laugh as the fleeing Saurus are chopped down as they run into the Trappers who have spent the game bickering in the nearby forest.
  • Trappers realize they are awesome, leave the forest and hurl sharp stuff at the Skink Chief on the Ancient Steg but fail to kill him.
  • Game ends as a Victory for the Beer Gut Tribe with only the Ancient Steg and Lord on Carnosaur remaining.

Game 2 - Ralph's Vampire Counts
  • Just the other night Ralph and I were discussing the list he planned on bringing to the "Hobby" tournament (it seems that as an Ogre player I am the unofficial opinion maker for what is "fair" and what isn't) and in a strange play of luck we were matched up against one another.
  • Ralph's one nasty character was a level 3 Vampire Lord w/ Infinite Hatred, Red Fury, the Cursed Book, Dread Knight, Bloody Hauberk, and the Balefire Spike. The rest of his list was made up of a Scouting Vamp, two Wight Kings, one on foot with the Black Axe, one as BSB with the Nightshroud and Sword of kings, a big unit of Black Knights (where the characters went), two units of Skeleton Warriors with full command and magic banners, a Varghulf, a unit of Fell Bats, one unit of Dire Wolves, and a block of 12 Ghouls.
  • My goal was to not get charged by the Black Knight unit while avoiding the Varghulf.
  • Deployment looked (something) like this:

  • Ralph got Turn 1 and used it to get his trap into position by moving the Wolves and Scout Vamp up in front of the Ironguts while the Bats moved to screen the Varghulf near the Trappers.
  • Trappers pass yet another Terror test and pop out to sharp stuff the Fell Bats but fail to do any wounds.
  • Leadbelchers move up and blast away at the Bats, dealing 4 wounds and leaving one base.
  • Meanwhile the Ironguts have charged the Terror causing Scout Vamp and Dire Wolves, managing to survive a challenge and killing all of the Wolves before chasing down the Vampire as he fled.
  • The Scraplauncher fired ineffectually at the Black Knight unit, killing one Knight.
  • Hunter shot at the Varghulf and hit before the nasty creature made its Regen save.
  • The Bulls near the Maneaters move up into a position to flee from the Black Knights, while the far right Leadbelchers do the same.
  • Ralph charges the Leadbelchers who flee, leaving a nice tasty flank for the Maneaters to take advantage of.
  • Ralph manages to IoN back all the Fell Bats before flying them directly in front of the Maneaters and blocking their charge.
  • Meanwhile the two units of Trappers are swarming around the Varghulf and throwing sharp stuff, hitting and wounding approx 8 times but the damn thing Regens all of the wounds.
  • Maneaters charge the Bats while the Bulls charge the Black Knight flank in an attempt at holding them in combat.
  • Scraplauncher and Slavegiant charge a unit of 5 Zombies which have been raised in front of the Skeleton units preventing a combo charge.
  • Ghouls charge and kill the unit of Leadbelchers on the right flank, then overrun into the Bulls before killing them as well in the next combat.
  • Maneaters crush the Bats and overrun out of the charge arc of the Varghulf behind them.
  • Bulls hold for the turn they charge, although the do not win close combat against the Black Knights.
  • Black Knights turn to face the Bulls and the Vampire Lord moves the fight them, dealing 4 wounds in a challenge against the Bull champion.
  • Bulls lose combat and break, are run down, and the Black Knight unit hits the front of the Maneaters (with a frontage of 3 and no ranks).
  • Slavegiant and Scraplauncher beat the 5 Zombies but only the Slavegiant manages to overrun into the nearby Skeletons as the Scrappie only goes 3" (needing something like 4" to make it).
  • Luckily the Slavegiant rolls a 1 and Yells and Bawls against the Skeletons winning the combat by 2 and allowing the Scraplauncher to charge in and help next turn.
  • Hunter fails two Terror tests, one which almost puts him off the board, and another when he needs to charge the Varghulf to keep it from charging the rear of the Maneater unit.
  • A massive clusterfuck of a fight continues in the middle as the Ironguts charge the Black Knights flank, followed by the nearby Skeletons charging the flank of the Ironguts, followed by the Scraplauncher charging the flank of the Skeletons after destroying the other Skeleton unit.
  • Tyrant manages to hold on in a non-challenge fight against the Vampire Lord, even after a turn of the Cursed Book being used.
  • Game ends due to time on Turn 4 as a Victory for the Beer Gut Tribe.
  • A truly brutal (and fun) game, with many things not going well for the Ogres but with them managing to still claw their way to victory.

Game 3 - Thomas (Goatboy)'s Warriors of Chaos
  • This game was played on table 2 of the tournament and was for third place in the prizes.
  • Thomas brought a hard but not too terrible list that had a Chaos Lord in a big block of Blasted Standard/Tz marked Chaos Knights (w/ a level 1 Nurgle Sorc in the block as well), another big block of Khorne marked Chaos Knights (w/ Exalted Hero on Juggernaut), three units of Marauder Horsemen, a Warshrine, and a Hellcannon.
  • I was excited for this game as I have never had a hard time killing Chaos Knights with a Maneater/character unit and I knew he would be looking for close combat to get the win.
  • Deployment looked like this (same table as the first game so same terrain for the most part):

  • Thomas had Turn 1 and moved his Horsemen up for the screen and flee.
  • Ironguts charged the Hellcannon while the far left Leadbelchers moved up and shot half the nearest Marauder Horsemen unit off the board.
  • Bulls charged the Horsemen in the middle, both of which fled through the Knights but failed to panic anything (shocking).
  • Far right Leadbelchers moved up to bait the Khorne Knights while the Slavegiant moved to a flanking position.
  • Ironguts deal three wounds to the Hellcannon before being flank charged by the Chaos Lord's unit of Knights.
  • Khorne Knights charge the Leadbelchers who flee, leaving a tasty front charge for the Maneater unit and a flank charge from the Slavegiant.
  • Maneater unit blows through the Chaos Knights and they are chased down as they flee.
  • Ironguts are obliterated by the Hellcannon and Chaos Lord, Leadbelchers manage to kill off the remaining Horsemen with another round of shooting before running off the board from the rampaging horde.
  • The rest of the game consists of the Chaos Lord unit falling back to not allow the Maneater unit to get a charge, while the Scraplauncher and Hunter fail to do any additional wounds through shooting.
  • Game ends as a Draw with the Beer Gut Tribe needing 4 more points to take a victory.
So there you have it, three games played, two wins and one draw. What is so tragic about that you ask? I was one point away from taking third place (my last opponent Thomas took it from me). It came down to the fact that I had two unpainted units on the table (my Hunter and a unit of Trappers) so I basically double screwed myself out of a top three finish.

From now on, I am not pulling any Ogre punches. I could have taken a "harder" list but I chose to go with something "soft" and lost out on prizes because of it. Lesson learned, better luck next time. Tomorrow I will post my specific thoughts on the list, what worked and what can be improved in the future.

Thanks to all of my opponents for three great games - win or lose I had a lot of fun and that is why we play the game right?

The Beer Gut Tribe goes to WAR - a 2,250 list for today's tournament.

Headed off to one of the monthly tournaments at BattleForge Games today, this month it is a "Hobby" one. During the last "Hobby" tournament I went 3-0 but I still didn't get into the top 3 for prizes. Here is hoping I can make it a little closer to the sun this time around. I am also using this as a chance to try out items and combos I would normally never use so I can gauge their effectiveness in a tournament setting. My pain is your gain if you are a regular Ogre Kingdoms player!

LORDS:
Tyrant – Heavy Armor, Luck Gnoblar, Sword Gnoblar x 2, Cathayan Longsword, Gut Maw, Wyrdstone Necklace (281)

Basic "challenge machine" Tyrant. If I had the points I would give him the Greyback Pelt as well for the -1 to hit in CC. Gut Maw allows me to take some wounds and still gain them back assuming I win the challenges the Tyrant fights.

HEROES:
Bruiser – Heavy Armor, Cathayan Longsword, Luck Gnoblar, Sword Gnoblar x 2, Greatskull, Gnoblar Thiefstone (207)
Bruiser – BSB, Dragonhide Banner, Lookout Gnoblar, Sword Gnoblar x 2, Heavy Armor (234)
Hunter – Sabertusks x 2, Longstrider, Sword of Battle (235)

The Bruiser buddies go with the Tyrant in a unit of Maneaters to make up my mini star of Ogre doom. Once you add in Sword Gnoblar attacks you are looking at 27 attacks from the unit, plus impact hits (hopefully) on the charge. In a game earlier this week I charged a unit of Dwarf Hammerers and killed 10 on the charge and won combat by 2 (even against the double US banner, and super CR BSB combo).

The Dragonhide banner is probably the worst magic banner in the game and certainly over costed. It allows rerolls of 1's for 'to hit', 'to wound', and armor saves on the turn the unit with the banner charges. If it is charged it gets none of these bonuses. Luckily you still get to take benefit from the other magic effect of the banner - immunity to 'Ice Magic'. Yup. Watch out Kislev armies!!

Hunter is going Monster/Wraith hunting.

CORE:
Bulls x 3 – Champion (125)
Bulls x 3 – Champion (125)
Ironguts x 3 – Champion, Bellower (174)
Gnoblar Trappers x 9 (54)
Gnoblar Trappers x 9 (54)

Basic fodder and redirection/flank support. Double the Trapper units equals double the fun! Actually they are quite powerful when near the Hunter and using his Ld of 9 to stand up to Large Terror causing targets. Here's Sharp Stuff in your eye you damn Dragon!!

SPECIAL:
Leadbelchers x 2 – Champion (120)
Leadbelchers x 2 – Champion (120)
Scraplauncher (165)

Shooting is fun, especially when you have no real control over the results.

RARE:
Maneaters x 2 – CLS, Heavy Armor (180)
Slavegiant (175)

Maneaters form the chewy (ItP) and crunchy (Stubborn) center of my Tyrant/Bruiser/Dragonhide/reroll/27 attacks candybar. If this unit does not get the charge it may still hold up in CC (with Stubborn and a reroll from the BSB) but I am hoping it won't come to that. The Slavegiant is just fun and hopefully he stuffs something into his pants this game (last time it was a handful of Troll Slayers).

Total Points: 2,249 (of 2,250)

I have played a couple games with the Dragonhide banner now and it has actually been kind of useful. If you don't get the charge ... well you have probably lost already anyway. Here's hoping it goes well today and I have some fun games! I'll try to be better about grabbing pictures for my poorly written Battle Reports.

Hobby delay!

Sorry for the lack of posts - my grandfather passed away at the beginning of the month and I drove back home to Michigan to attend his funeral and visit family. I'm just now getting back into hobby mode - expect updates on my (many) army projects to come!

2250 Hobby Tournament Results.

The Beer Gut Tribe has gone on the road and returned (mostly) victorious!

I attended my first WHFB tournament yesterday here in Austin at BattleForge Games. It was a 2250 Hobby Tournament which meant the lists were a little less competitive and the players were more friendly overall. Not sure where I finished in the overall rankings but I know I finished somewhere in the middle of the pack (probably around 15 out of 30 or so players).

Sadly I didn't have the chance to take any notes or grab any pictures of the event. The following is a brief overview of each match as I can remember it. Apologies to anyone or anything I may screw up.

First Round
Primary Objective - Basic victory points awarding points based on point differential.
Secondary Objective - Destroy your opponent's highest point cost unit.
Tertiary Objective - Claim more table quarters than your opponent.
Bonus points for having a unit in your own deployment zone and for keeping your general alive.

Opponent - Shane playing Orcs & Goblins.
His list consisted of 2 Spear Chukkas (w/ Bullies), 1 Rock Lobba, 2 units of Spider Riders, 1 unit of Wolf Riders, 2 units of Night Goblins with Bows, 4 Fanatics, 2 units of Orc Boyz with choppas and shields, 2 units of Arrer Boyz, 1 unit of Black Orcs, a lvl 2 Goblin Shaman, and a Black Orc Warboss on a pig. That is all I can remember seeing on the table.

The game started with a bit of "chicken" in the middle of the board as almost every O&G unit rolled a 6 to start and surged forward. Coupled with their additional movement that put them very close to the middle on Turn 1. Magic was a wash for my opponent in this turn but he did manage to put 3 wounds on my Hunter with the Rock Lobba and blew up one Leadbelcher with two shots from the Spear Chukkas. They proceeded to fail their Ld roll and run towards the board edge. Not wanting to rush headlong into the waiting Fanatics I used one Butcher to force a panic check against the first unit of Night Goblins who failed their Ld test (on a 10 needing a 9) and ran away, dropping their two Fanatics. The second unit stood their ground. I used my remaining dice to cast Trollguts on both of my control units (3 IG w/ Siegebreaker/Skullmantle Butcher and 4 IG with the Tyrant and Bangstick Butcher) and heal one of the wounds caused by casting that spell.

After managing to cast the O&G bouncy smashing spell my opponent rolled a 1 giving me the chance to smash his unit of Orc Boys. This was followed by a spectacular scatter for the Rock Lobba which put the template directly in the middle of the remaining Orc Boys. The Hunter and nearby Leadbelchers managed to whittle them down to half strength before being shot down by Bolts, Arrows, and Magic (not counting the Leadbelchers who mostly killed themselves with their two consecutive misfire rolls).

On the left flank the Yhetees managed to kill one unit of Spider Riders before scaring the nearby Wolf Riders off the board. After moving into a nearby forest I forgot to move them for two turns and they did nothing for the remainder of the match.

On the far right flank my Slavegiant was playing around with some Spider Riders before making his way behind the enemy lines and threatening the second unit of Orc Boyz. The Gorger didn't come in until Turn 4 before finally charging the Rock Lobba crew. He killed everyone but the Bully who managed to stand his ground. The remaining Fanatics spun themselves out by rolling doubles and opened the way for a charge against the units of Night Goblins. One unit fled while the other stood and took the brunt of the damage from the Ironguts and Characters but managed to stand their ground.

Result - DRAW.
The game ended at the start of Turn 6. I could have played this game better but my nerves were getting to me a bit as this was my first competitive tournament game against a total stranger. Shane was really nice and good natured about the game and overall it was a lot of fun. I think I would have had the marginal win given another round but I also didn't contend with his super "choppy" Lord on the Tusker who had items to give him extra attacks when multiple enemy characters were around. At one point this model was surrounded by all four of my characters which would have given him a huge number of attacks. Glad I didn't have to face him!

Second Round
Primary Objective - Basic victory points awarding points based on point differential.
Secondary Objective - Have the highest unit strength unit within 3" of the center.
Tertiary Objective - Win a challenge.
Bonus points for having a unit in your opponent's deployment zone and killing the enemy general.

Opponent - Steven (Stephen?) playing Lizardmen.
His list consisted of a Slann BSB in a unit of 25 Temple Guard (or was it 20?), A Scar Vet on cold one, a Scar Vet with Jaguar Charm, a level 2 Skink Priest, a Stegadon, 2 units of Skinks, a unit of Chameleon Skinks, a unit of 3 Kroxigors, and a unit of 2 Salamanders. I think that was everything he had!

The game started with my Leadbelchers moving into position to blast his Chameleon Skinks that he deployed near the far right of the board across from a unit of Bulls. I misfired once (of course) but did 10 shots and wounded 4 of the skinks. They passed their Ld test, moved back, but failed their next Ld test when they were charged next turn by the Bulls and remaining Leadbelcher.

The far left flank was occupied by a large forest where my Trappers awaited the nearby Skinks aided by the Yhetees as they moved into position. The Yhetees ended up charging the Skinks and ran them down, moving just out of range of the Salamanders who proceeded to blast them to bits.

Meanwhile I moved up my larger command units towards the middle of the board, awaiting the moment to charge and trying to get within 3" of the center. A unit of Bulls I put into position to hold the space fled a charge by the Stegadon and continued to flee for the remainder of the game.

The Gorger came in on turn 2 before being nearly killed by fire from the nearby Salamanders. Having survived he rear charged the Stegadon while the nearly dead Slavegiant (Skinks are bad news for these big guys!) managed to get a flank charge on the mammoth beast. After rolling Yell and Bawl (which was actually bad for me) the combat was over but the Stegadon held.

After whittling away at the Salamanders and killing one, the Hunter moved up to threaten a flank charge on the Kroxigors, while the Temple Guard stood and accepted a charge from the 7 Ironguts, 2 Butchers and the Tyrant. The Tyrant challenged and cut down the Scar Vet on Cold One and the remaining LM forces dealt a two wounds total to the combat. They stood their ground and the game was over due to time.

I had to weather a lot of magic in this game with about 11 power dice on average being thrown at me in the form of magic missiles. Thank goodness for Trollguts! I can't imagine playing this match without it.

Result - WIN.
The game ended at the start of Turn 4. It was really going my way though and another turn would have probably seen the Stegadon fall with the Kroxigors and Temple Guard being close to breaking as well. I was exactly 1/2 " away from the 3" center of the board and didn't complete that objective. Overall it was a fun game and Steven was a great (if not a little slow playing) opponent. I don't look forward to facing the new and improved Lizardmen when the new book comes out next month!

Third Round
Primary Objective - Basic victory points awarding points based on point differential.
Secondary Objective - Pick an enemy character and kill it or force it to flee.
Tertiary Objective - Have a Core unit alive and above half strength at the end of the match.
No Bonus Points.

Opponent - Jamal playing Warriors of Chaos.
For some reason I wasn't that scared of this list as he was deploying it and playing it, but after further thought this was probably one of the meanest lists I have faced as an OK player in my time with the game. Jamal had 2 units of Chaos Knights (one marked with Khorne), 2 units of Marauder Horsemen (one marked with Nurgle, both with Spears and Throwing Axes), a unit of Chaos Warriors (with mark of Nurgle), 2 Chaos Giants, a Khorne Chaos Lord on Juggernaut, and a level 2 Nurgle Chaos Sorcerer.

I knew from previous experience that I had to beware the long range charges of both the Horsemen and the Knights so I placed back farther in the deployment zone with the intention of baiting his units into a flank charge. The far left flank was guarded by my Hunter (which was my opponent's choice for character to kill) and a unit of Trappers while the far right flank was comprised of a unit of Leadbelchers, the Yhetees, and a unit of Bulls. I started the game by moving these units far up on to the enemy flank while the Hunter shot at and dealt 3 wound to the Giant across the table from him. The remaining Trapper unit deployed behind the unit of Warriors and pelted them with Sharp Stuff (doing nothing) and march blocking this force.

Meanwhile the other Leadbelchers and the Slavegiant surged forward to meet the incoming horde of mounted Chaos. The Leadies took 4 shots at the other Chaos Giant and dealt no wounds proceeding to flee a charge from the beast and being run down. The Slavegiant fled a charge from the Khorne Knights and the Horsemen but was caught being 1" too slow. On the left flank the Hunter managed to deal another 2 wounds to the other approaching giant while the Trappers finished him off dealing 1 wound on their 18 Sharp Stuff shots (and making it past his 6+ Ward Save). The Skullmantle Butcher managed to get off a lucky Braingobbler and forced the unmarked unit of Knights to flee.

On the right flank the Leadbelchers moved up and shot a unit of Horsemen killing 3, before they were charged by the Bulls. The Bulls killed the remaining Horsemen and ran in front of the now unscreened Khorne Knights and between the OK control unit.

After smashing through the Bulls the Khorne Knights slammed into the 4 Ironguts with Tyrant and Bangstick Bruiser. The Chaos Lord challenged and was surprised when his challenge was answered by the Tyrant. The Tyrant withstood the incoming assault of 12+ attacks, only taking one wound after his regen save from Trollguts, but failed to make it through the defenses of the Chaos Lord with his own 3 wounds. The unit lost combat and fled but managed to escape the Knights by 1" and rallying on the next (and final) turn.

On the right flank the Yhetees and Leadbelchers charged the Nurgle Warriors before proceeding to lost multiple combats but not breaking (with some very lucky Ld rolls). The game ended due to time with the Gorger never making it on the board.

Result - DRAW.
The game ended at the start of Turn 4. After managing to rally my command group and forcing the Knights to flee I won by 200 points. Jamal was pretty frustrated by the whole game as he was sure he would be able to beat me (and he would have given a few more turns), but his nearby friend who also plays OK thought it was a great way to end the game.

Final Results - 1 Win, 2 Draws. Not too shabby for my first tournament games. I think a lot of my good fortune came down to my opponents not knowing what Ogres are capable of as nobody in the local scene plays with the army. I heard a lot of negative remarks about the army, some of them fairly insulting, but I didn't bother trying to explain why I play OK. These are the same people who love Daemons and Dark Elves so there is really no point in arguing about it.

Thanks to all the great people I played with and thanks to Brandon and BattleForge Games for putting on a fun event. I will certainly be back for more abuse in the future.

New Year, same Warhammer.

Wow. It has been far too long since I posted here. The onslaught of the Holidaze, coupled with a "vacation" to Colorado, has conspired to keep me away from my beloved Gnoblog! No more I say! No more!

I think the Dark God Nurgle may have blessed me with some strange (and not so wonderful) gift over the past couple weeks. It started out right around Xmas with a sore throat and blisters on my lips. Turns out I was probably getting a bit too close to a little too much super glue for my own good. My body reacted violently to glue fumes and burst into horrible sores on my lips and in my throat (around my sinuses). What followed was about a week of non-stop pain every time I breathed, swallowed, talked, sneezed, burped, ate, drank, or did anything at all that might briefly pass the open sores.

Lesson learned. Glue in a well ventilated area and don't do so much of it all at once! I was so excited about my new Vampire Counts army I tried to get as much done as I could before leaving on vacation. This frenzy of assembly is likely the culprit to my glue induced misery.

Shortly after I was mostly healed I hopped in my car and drove up to Fort Collins, CO to stay with F's sister and her family for a holiday vacation. The drive wasn't bad and the time went by fairly quick. Upon arriving we spent the first couple days in nature and bars. Somewhere along the way I was further blessed by Nurgle coming down with a case of violent stomach duress. Spending 12+ hours puking your guts out and another few days laying in bed moaning is not what I would recommend for a vacation. Felt better just in time to drive back home to Texas and the world of breakfast tacos, warm winters, and cheap beer.

So what is the point of any of that and how does it relate to Warhammer? Good question! While I was in Colorado I tweaked my first VC list and played it against a 1k O&G list this past Tuesday. It was my first time playing the undead and I learned quite a bit about what works and what doesn't. In the end victory was mine as I ran five units off the board and killed the remaining few. I have to say that playing VC is a far different game from playing the OK. I won't go so far as to say it was "easier", but somehow I just felt more in control of what was happening on the battlefield.

As much as I want to continue work on my VC I am wrapped up in a bigger project at the moment; preparing my OK Beer Gut Tribe for their first appearance at the local gaming store and my first WHFB Tournament. The tourney is next Saturday and will be played at BattleForge Games here in Austin. It is a "hobby" tournament which means theme and fun factor play into the overall score more than a solid competitive list. This suits me well as I don't really have the models to make a truly "competitive" OK list at the moment. The point total for the event is 2250 and that will take almost all of my models (minus a couple Bulls and Gnoblars) to hit. Here is the list I am taking to the event:
LORD:
Tyrant – Heavy Armor, Luck Gnoblar, Tenderizer, Jade Lion, Mawseeker (301)

HEROES:
Hunter – Longstrider, Sabertusk x 2 (210)
Butcher – Siegebreaker, Skullmantle (180)
Butcher – Bangstick, Dispel Scroll (180)

CORE:
Bulls x 3 + Bellower (115)
Bulls x 3 + Bellower (115)
Ironguts x 4 + Bellower (202)
Ironguts x 3 + Bellower (154)
Gnoblar Trappers x 9 (54)
Gnoblar Trappers x 9 (54)

SPECIAL:

Yhetees x 3 (195)
Leadbelchers x 2 + Bellower (120)
Leadbelchers x 2 + Bellower (120)

RARE:
Slavegiant (175)
Gorger (75)

Total Points: 2250 (of 2250)
I played this list on Friday against a Dwarf Anvil of Doom list that was pretty balanced. A couple Bolt Throwers, Organ Gun, some Miners, Warriors, Longbeards, Slayers, Hammerers, the Anvil, Quarrelers, Thunderers, and a Gyro.

Started out pretty bad as I was getting shot to bits. The MVP of the game was my Slavegiant who utterly destroyed the Slayer unit on a flank and proceeded to run into a unit of Thunderers and take them out. He finally charged the rear of a unit of Warriors and crushed them as they fled. Still had 2 wounds and about 6 Dwarfs in his pants at the end of the game! I love this guy!

My Gorger came in on turn 2, hid behind a unit of Warriors who moved out of the way and was utterly destroyed by 10 shots from the Organ Gun.

One unit of IG was demolished by Longbeards after a bad charge, and my two units of Trappers did NOTHING the ENTIRE GAME. My Yhetees got stuck behind one unit of them and was worthless as well.

The Tyrant and Siegebreaker Butcher ran with 3 IG and smashed through a unit of Hammerers before flanking the Longbeards (having lucked out as the Anvil misfired and the Hammerers were not able to charge the unit).

It was at least a Solid Victory, perhaps a Massacre, but it didn't change my mind about the crappiness of Leadbelchers and the Hunter. The first unit of Leadbelchers was shot to bits before finally making it into range and MISFIRING to blow themselves up. The second unit also took heavy shooting casualties before getting off a pathetic 4 shots doing only 1 wound. I really hate these guys.

All in all it was a good game although somewhere during the game I lost one of my painted Gnoblar Trappers! I have no idea where he went as it was on the table during deployment and then it was gone at the end of the game. Very strange ...

Here is a picture of the partially painted and fully primed 2250 army I am taking to the event:

Hopefully I will manage to get some more of the models in this picture finished before next Saturday! Wish me luck, I'm sure I will need it.
