Progress Report 3/19/17 - 52 Minis week 11

A stressful week! Spent most of it sick and very tired. After much rest I went back to work... or tried to before I got a flat tire on my car!! Argh!

Needless to say I got very little done of the hobby front. But I did manage to get one Dwarf adventurer painted!! Here's Boozehammer 2.0

 

Drunk, angry, and ready to hit things with a hammer until they behave. Just the way a Dwarf warrior should be! 

Speaking of warriors I also spent some time building some Avatars of War "not Nurgle Chaos Warriors".

Overall I like the looks of them. I did add a few GW bits here and there to help tie them in more with the rest of my Nurgle forces. The kits were not easy to put together and have legs, torso, arms x 2, head, and then weapons. It was very challenging to get the two handed weapons lined up with the arms and much swearing was done in the process. 

Progress Report 2/13/17 - 52 Minis week 6 (and a few WIP things too)

Well I didn't get this update up last week but here is the mini for week 6.... another Dwarf adventurer!

I don't have a name for this fella yet. He looks like a miner/self sufficient type individual. I imagine him being a bit of a loner who teams up with others when duty calls. Happy overall with how he turned out. 

And while I didn't paint any other minis I did spend a bit of time completing my bits extension version of three Blightkings! Here they are in their WIP state.

While they didn't turn out quite as cool looking as I had imagined (always learning more about how to sculpt well with GS) I think they will fit nicely with my other minis. Plus they weren't doing me any good sitting around in a bits box or on a sprue! That means I managed to squeeze 8 (possibly 9) models out of just the one box! Granted I had some other tasty Nurgle bits left over but not a bad little value!

Speaking of bad... picked these guys up cheap to add a bit to and use for Beasts of Nurgle.

They look gross enough to avoid already! Later this week I will update with some more WIP of them on bases as well as the next painted mini! Here's a hint... some say there is no malice in Warhammer. 

Progress Report 2/5/17 - 52 Minis Week 5

January is over!!? Oh man... time moves a little too quick sometimes. This week I spent very little time with a paintbrush or glue. Between work, class, and homework drawings I have had very little time for hobby stuff. But that didn't stop me from finishing a miniature for this week!!

Meet Greybeard the old Dwarf Barbarian. He's been around... seen a thing or two... has a couple scars to prove it. This was a fun little miniature to paint. As soon as I saw it I knew I wanted this to be an old man barbarian. He has the sinew and leather kind of build going on. 

I've also been building various minis for more of my This Is Not A Test collection. I can't seem to find my photos of the Cannibal Mutant warband I have been putting together but I did find this photo of their dogs!

Probably managed to break off their chains and are running around looking for fresh meat right now. I better get back to the basement and see if I can keep them from getting loose! Until next time...

Progress Report 1/28/7 - 52 Minis Week 4

Didn't accomplish much this week in the realm of games or painting. I'm hoping to spend a bit more time this weekend at the desk but homework is always looming...

This week we have this Chaos Sorcerer looking guy in a stitched up skin cloak. Not sure what edition of WHFB or 40k he is from. Another random from my acquisitions. 

I had fun painting the various shades of skin color in his cloak and the magic runes on his skulls. The stuck on dead skin mask was a bit of gruesome joy to paint as well. And even though I didn't plan on it I finished up another Dwarf adventurer while I was at it!

No name yet for this grizzled bear clad warrior. I imagine him as being a bit of a veteran... he's seen some things. I tried to reflect that in his slightly battleworn gear. Pretty happy with how he turned out overall. If you have a name suggestion throw it in the comments section! Next up on the painting table... more Dwarfs!?

Progress Report 1/21/17 - 52 Minis Week 3

Here we go... it's week 3 of (at least) 52 minis for the year. Hey look it's a Dwarfess!

Some kind of rune wielding blacksmith? Or runesmith? Or just a badass Dwarf woman? Either way I was really excited to get my paintbrush on her. For some reason the ink wash I used looks very glossy in this photo. Hopefully it will look less so with a bit of dullcoat applied. 

This is the first mini painted for my Mordheim Dwarf crew or alternatively for Frostgrave perhaps? (Oh yeah I kinda bought that rulebook during the holiday break... but haven't played yet)

In other news this last week was good with a bit of Pathfinder Societies play with my group (who hadn't played since Feb of last year!!) and also my first week of a new semester. This time around I have two separate drawing classes 4 days a week which has really kicked my lazy drawing butt into high gear. Probably drawn and sketched more this week than the past 15 years combined!!

The week of drawing has been a good reminder that like any art drawing takes practice! Same with mini painting and painting in general! Don't get down on yourself for doing something and it not being "the best" - getting yourself going is at least half the battle.

Kevros the Half Orc Monk about to Grapple a Stone Giant

Last year before my last session of PFS I re-created my Monk with the Unchained Monk. Best choice I could have made! At level 9 he has 27-30 (potentially up to 48) AC without armor, 2d6 damage per hit (with up to 3 per round in his Flurry of Blows), the ability to follow up and strike opponents who miss him in combat (thanks to Snake style!), and he can generally sense and perceive the hell out of things. Of course he is dumb as a bag of rocks with about as much charisma... but that's okay!

Potentially playing a bit of Bloodbowl or AoS tomorrow and I have plenty more drawing to do as well. So until next time....

Progress Report 8/3/14 - Slow rolling... into the grave.

Well I am officially (statistically) half way to dead and another year older. Yesterday was my birthday and I spent it at the movies, making pizzas, drinking beers, and playing games. Not tabletop games (I wish!!) just some low impact board games like Carcassone and Shadow Hunters. I did get to spend just a tiny bit of time painting and assembling some minis too.

Really itching to finish my Mordheim band as well and I think I might compete in a WHFB tournament in a few months which means I need to finish and/or repaint and touch up one of my armies. Probably my Vampire Counts though the Ogres are tempting me...

Progress Report 7/21/14 - Finding the Path...

Back in the painting saddled after time away for gaming at Zlurpee Bowl and working on Mordheim Undead warband minis and a few new Pathfinder characters for a home game I am running with a few friends. Also picked up Dreadball for cheap so I will either start playing that game or maybe just build and paint up the minis to sell. We'll see.... in the meantime here is some progress!
