The Greenboyz mega catchup post #2 (52 minis weeks ???)

Back for more of that GREEN!?

Okay well let us get right to it with a quick recap from Legends Cup.

And there you have it! The Greenboyz had a final record of 0 wins, 1 tie, and 2 losses. Lost the first match vs Underworld Creepers. Came down to a failed GFI and tripping over the goal line for a tie. Second match was against the Bright Crusaders who pulled ahead early for a 2-0 lead but didn't count on the scrappy Goblins of the boyz coming back to tie it up 2-2 in the end. Last round was a brutal game against the Grudge Bearers who dominated the field and finally outscored a tie in the last turn of the game.

Overall a really fun event I am look forward to the next one now that I have a bit more practice with the team and know the rules a bit better (like you can't throw a Pogoer... oops!).

Hot on the heels of Legends Cup the boyz headed to Chicagoland for Chaos Cup 17. With the theme this year being GOBLINS it seemed like a no-brainer to bring a less than stellar version of The Greenboyz to the pitch for 6 games of Blood Bowl action.

Chaos Cup 2017 - Goblin Power!!

Round 1 vs Khemri (Coach aenir)
First game of the tournament started way up on table 10 or so versus... Khemri!? Got bashed around good and the fewer goblins on the pitch the easier it was to score for some reason. Managed to shut out the Khemri for a 2-0 win and secure goal #1 for The Greenboyz at Chaos Cup 17 - take home at least one win!

Round 2 vs Undead (Coach swerve)
Playing on table 4 (what the) after round 1 The Greenboyz got utterly trounced by the Undead. Not even a close matchup from a player perspective. Ended in about 1 hour or less. Nice coach though! I look forward to playing a proper match sometime in the future.

Round 3 vs Skinks (Coach bluedaybreak)
Finally a good match up for the boyz! At least on paper... this one turned into a snooze fest with the goblins failing every roll they made. It was a disaster but at least I was drinking heavily at this point! Ended up losing 0 to 3.

Round 4 vs Skaven (Coach gaddockteeg)
Ending the day somewhere in the middle/back of the tables (mid 20's) the boyz ended up matched against a Skaven team. I fully expected this to be a blowout but the boyz surprised me by going head to head in a shoot out with Gutter Runners?! Failed a final TTM attempt to tie it up on the last turn of the second half and ended up losing 2 to 3. A really fun game!

After a full day of Blood Bowl it was time to relax and unwind with a little SRG Supershow! Dr. Skullface made his XCW premiere and was promptly smacked down by everyone he went against (mostly by rolling Agility on the dice over and over and over again...). Luckily The Right managed to win the whole thing and bring home the tiny championship belt to Kalamazoo! Alright!! Then it was on to day 2 of Chaos Cup.

Dwarves. How are they even down here on the bottom tables!? Broken. I don't remember much from this match outside of being very pissed off as my opponent decided to stall out after being in the lead by 2. Playing for all the marbles at the bottom tables... good game bro? Just to spite their beardy faces managed a TTM 1 turn score on the last turn to get on scoreboard. Lost 2 to 1.

Deep into the bottom tables now last match is against... Dark Elves?! I mean wtf... can't I play at least one more fun team? The boyz failed all their rolls, coach hated himself and the game, probably was a dick to his opponent, and finally lost 3 to 1.

Somewhere in the second day I put up The Greenboyz for the Chaotic Brush painting competition. I have entered every year since it began and each year I paint a new team for the event. And each year I received no awards. Now I don't think of myself or my painting as your traditional "painting competition winner" type but I also don't think of myself as a total shit painter. Here's the team.. you be the judge?

Well surprisingly a couple things happened. #1 - I saw a few new teams and not the same teams which seem to be entered each year and continue to win awards.

#2 and #3 I won two awards!? Fan Favorite (hell yes!) and Best Theme (Green!). I may not look like it in the photos but I was (and am) super excited to finally win my first miniatures painting awards! Heck it's only taken me 10+ years to get here. Thanks to everyone who voted for and appreciated The Greenboyz! We're already adding new pieces to the team for the next time out.

Progress Report 10/9/16 - Dakk Ulves n' Masks ahoy.

Welcome intrepid reader(s) to another short "what the hell has Randroid been doing" update. In short... homework!! Started working on obtaining some type of Art/Illustration degree and it has kept me busy with paintings and digital editing/creation.

Also managed to get my arse kicked in at Chaos Cup. Finished 1/2/3. Still hate elves.

Game 1 vs Vampires. They just felt like beating me not eating me.

Game 2 vs Lizards. So much Strength and Movement!! Lost the tie on the last turn.

Game 3 vs Undead. Snuck away on Turn 8 for my only win of the event. 

Game 4 vs Orcs. The Assassin finally managed to CAS someone with a stab!

Game 5 vs Dark Elves. Just a tie (this coach dropped out after this game)

Game 6 vs Chaos Pact. I just realized all these games are in the wrong order.

Things I learned - Dark Elves can pull some Elf shit when they feel like it. Witches with Blodge and Side Step are filth and were worth every GP I spent. Assassin was fun and soaked up a lot of blocks and attention (keeping them off my Witches) but Stab (even Multi-stab) didn't do a lot. And finally my dice luck is still incredibly bad. 

I also spent a good chunk of change on a pile of old pewter GW/etc miniatures (some Oldhammer stuff and other assorted things) from a long time collector who was selling off some of his collection to help pay medical bills. A sad thing but I tried to give some of his collection a good home! Look for them to appear here as I find a use for them. 

While at the tournament I also finally tried out the SRG Super Show wrestling card game that folks have been playing for a year or so. Turns out it is fast to play and fun to boot! Furry and myself have already started up a card wrestling league here back home. The KCWF. You can read about it here.

And the past few weeks I have been working on my This Is Not A Test 2x2 terrain squares in preparation for the hardbound rules book which should be arriving any day now. Got my first tile built and primed and I am working on my second now. And there is a Tale of X Warlords Age of Sigmar event going on at the local game store which I am participating in with my Nurgle forces. No photos of any of that at the moment so you'll just have to take my word for it. Til next time...

Progress Report 9/2/16 - Headed out to Chaos Cup.

It's that time again!? Chaos Cup!!! This year I am bringing Dark Elves and I even managed to finish painting them. It was a slapdash bit of a job. Partly because I didn't have the urge to paint these models and partly because all of their details are so damn small!! Still they turned out acceptable which is what I was aiming for.

Followed by 3 Blitzers (though one will be playing a Line elf this time out)

And the only reason to play Dark Elves - 2 Witch Elves! 

Finally we have the remaining 3 Line elves

I played one practice game against Furry's Chaos Dwarfs and we tied 1-1. Things I need to remember for the tournament this weekend: Shadowing on the Assassin, asking if my opponent will follow the block on the sidestep pieces, and that even the Line elves have AG 4!! 

For 6 games I am hoping for 3-2-1 but would settle for wins and ties to outnumber losses. I'm not looking for another Wooden Spoon award from Chaos Cup (already got that one in 2014).  

I also painted up another member for the Chaos Cup Legacy Team - a Thrall! 

A Reaper Bones mini I cut a lot of stuff off. I think he looks alright. 

Now it's time to pack up and hit the road for another fun Bloodbowl event with fine folks!

Progress Report - Augulyst mega-update part 2.

You read all the 40k nonsense in part 1 already yeah? Good. Let's get into part 2!!!

Here is the part where we talk about Blood Bowl... specifically Zlurpee Bowl. This year I brought another For The Love of the Game team - TROLLS! Basically Goblins with no secret weapons and three Trolls (counting Ripper the star player). Mostly I wanted to finish painting my Crablings team and use them in something... which I did!

I can't seem to find my roster anywhere... but from memory I took 11 Goblins and the 3 Trolls with 2 rerolls, am Apoth, and 1 Fan Factor. The Trolls had most of the skills - both with Guard, 1 with Break Tackle and 1 with Juggernaut. I had 2 Goblins with Catch, 2 with Side Step, and 1 with Sure Hands.

Played 5 games! I couldn't even remember what happened really! In part because I spent the night before the start of the tournament in Detroit watching John Carpenter perform live!

After getting about an hour of sleep I piled into the car with Furry and headed to Indiana for the tournament. I didn't do a good job of taking notes but I did grab a few photos and you can see my final score below:

Final game for the Weak Sauce award (last place) vs Hobgoblins w/ Minotaur.

Played against some very tough teams and only managed to win the last game... for last place! Great mix of coaches and teams though and I had a really fun time even though my team was a pile of hot garbage who couldn't be counted on to make a 3+ dodge with a reroll to save their lives. 

At the end of the day I walked home with the Weak Sauce (last place) award. I am now in the proud club of having the last place award for both Chaos Cup and Zlurpee Bowl! Yah!!!

Coming up next we have Chaos Cup!! Another annual favorite/onslaught of pain and endurance! This year I thought it would be fun to bring something new and different (and to finish painting another team I have sitting around collecting dust).... Dark Elves! Here is my current roster:

Really wanted to play something with more agility and a running game. Also wanted to bring the Assassin because why not!? Sure it is not the "best" choice but I am more interested in having fun and doing something different. Obviously I don't care much about winning. Here are a few photos of the WIP Dark Elves:

Still a lot to paint on these elves and I am running out of time to do it! Here's hoping I can manage to get them done and on the pitch for the event. I did manage to finish painting up a Vampire for this year's Chaos Cup Legacy Team though! Pretty happy with how he turned out:

Also painting up a few wasteland critters from This is Not a Test for charity. Just a quick bit of paint.. hopefully they go to some kids in need of mutant rats, snakes, and roaches!

And that is all for now. Made the choice to go back to school and get some kind of degree (as my job will foot the tuition bill) and settled on an Art/Illustration degree. Expect to see some of that stuff pop up here from time to time among the other random updates. Apologies to the beer lovers as I haven't been giving the beer reviews a proper place on the blog. Been drinking less and my archive of reviews is buried in files from my dead computer. I'll try and remedy that soon! Til next time..

Progress Report 7/6/15 - The age before Sigmar.

So there we have all that... and of course all the rules are up and accessible. You've no doubt read them all multiple times by now right!? 

I won't lie. I am excited. I haven't played any WHFB 8th ed in a year or more and the interest around these parts is at an all time low. Hoping that with the opening of a new FLGS with more gaming space and the release of this new version that is about the change. Going to be playing my first game of AoS later today so I will report on my experiences next time around. 

Meanwhile... been working on a new Blood Bowl  team for Chaos Cup, a new Dwarf warband for Mordheim, and a miniature for the Chaos Cup Legacy team. Here is the photographic evidence!

This is my Hobgoblin #13 for the Chaos Cup 15 Chaos Dwarf legacy team. Pretty basic. I like how he turned out though.

These are the three big guy apes for my new Chaos Pact Blood Bowl team. Left to Right you have the Minotaur, Ogre, and Troll.

 These are the Chaos Marauder apes. Their twisted creator has something for giant arms and tubes.

Speaking of which here is the twisted Halfling scientist himself! Plus the Dark Elf and Goblin apes.
