Hi.
Nothing to see here. Haven't spent any time playing games or painting/assembling/converting minis. Take a look at this sad scene from my dusty work space as proof:
Just a pile of partially base coated plague infested ratmen looking for love. I want to paint them! I do! I just can't find the motivation and I can't remember the last time I actually played a game of Warhammer. Probably about this time last year?!
Speaking of last year... that was when we had Dog Bowl V. Furry and I have been doing this version of the Kalamazoo Bloodbowl tournament for six years now! In fact Dog Bowl VI is happening today! I even managed to get a bit of paint on the trophies for this year that my friend Mark prints for me. Check them out!
Who will win? Will the game store hosting us actually have a place for us to play? Will it be fun? All this and more will be answered next time out...

Progress Report 3/31/17 - 52 Minis week 12 & 13 (Dog Bowl V)
I've been very busy with the work and school and homework and not really sleeping schedule though not so busy I can't update this here blog!! This time around you get two weeks in one!
Last last week was a fun bit of time painting the Nurgle Slugbeasts. Here are they in their not quite done glory (still need to add some gloss to them):
I had fun painting these squirmy old slug monsters. I hope they perform well on the table as they slime my enemies....
Speaking of performing well... it's that time again! Time for Dog Bowl! This is the 5th year I have run this event with Furry and if it's like every other year it will be a great time. I happy coaches seem to enjoy the "underdog" boosting rules for the tournament and I am happy to see them playing teams that often get no love in the "competitive" scene.
This year we also decided to do a fun little thematic Bloodbowl 7s match set in the Realm of Chaos. Depending on how it is received we might expand upon this for next year.
Hmm... I wonder what these two Chaos Warriors could be for? It seems they have something on their minds...
Oops! Or should I say Rats!?

Dog Bowl IV - Done and dog gone.
Last week was Dog Bowl IV at Marmalade Dog! I brought out the Ogres for fun. Roster was:
4 x Ogres - Block, Guard
4 x Snotlings - Diving Tackle
8 x Snotlings
Bloodweiser Babe
5 x Rerolls
First game the Ogres came out swinging and pummeled Fejwe's all Skink team on the way to a 2-1 victory. Play of the game: Snotling stomped on a Kroxigor's head and killed him on turn 4 of the first half. Way to go!!

| Only one Skink (hidden from view here behind the middle Ogre) between us and victory!! |

| Skinks get a little help from the Marmalade Dog on the kick off... ouch! |
Second game was the beginning of the classic slump to the finish against Whigwham's Nurgle team. It was a great game and Whigwham and I have a bit of history going back now. Though he once used to fear the power of the Ogres he has since learned they can roll plenty of bad dice on the way to the finish. Lost the game but had one amazing play: Snotling dodged out of the Beast of Nurgle's tentacles, through 4 more tackle zones, and made to GFI to 3 die uphill block the Pestigor ball carrier just outside of the endzone. VICTORY!!! Until they picked the ball back up and scored of course!

| MVS - Most Valuable Snotling!!! |
Third game was the final loss of the day but another great game versus Hippest Hippo's Humans. It wasn't much of a game on the Ogre side but the Humans managed to kill a Snotling with every block for about the first 8 turns of the game. This ended up catapulting Hippo's Humans right to the most cas award for the event! Even if we didn't win it the Ogres were happy to see so many smeared Snotlings on the pitch.

| Just outside of the end zone our Ogre ball carrier finally got knocked down. |
Another great year for the Dog Bowl. Massive thanks to Furry for running this thing so I can get three fun games of Bloodbowl in without having to drive across the midwest! Be sure to check out the KUBBL blog for a detailed rundown on the winners (and lots of terrible photos of me).

Progress Report - 3/19/16: Back to the Blood and the Bones
Eherm.
Today is the day! The day for Dog Bowl IV at the Marmalade Dog gaming convention in sunny Kalamazoo. This is the fourth year of the tournament mostly run by Furry with a (very) small bit of help from me. This year I spent some time getting together "prizes" and trophies for the event.
| 3D printed Blood Bowl trophies full of sharp edges! |
If I play in the event I will be bringing out the Ogres for a fun mix of "hit em in da ead and den run ova dem" and "get these damn Snotlings out of my way!!" I hope to tie three games or maybe even win one. Given that I haven't played any Blood Bowl since Headbangers Ball last year I expect my showing to be less than stellar.
In other gaming news... spent a bit of time at the FLGS Chronocade playing some Age of Sigmar two weeks back. It was a fun low pressure event where we just tried some different scenarios and had a good time. Each player brought 1000 sdk worth of their chosen army and again I went right for the Ogres.
My list was:
Tyrant
Slaughtermaster
Ironguts x 4
Leadbelchers x 4
Gorger
Giant
First game was a capture and hold scenario with a tower in the center of the field. Went up against the Sigmarines for the first time out and managed to easily crush most of them in combat. Ran the Gorger in on turn 2 and almost killed the Sigmarine general in one round but was the surrounded and crushed by the other devotees near by. Held on to the tower until the last turn with 1 Leadbelcher remaining but the tiebreaker was decided by number of models and the Sigmar forces had two models in base contact giving them the win. A well fought and fun game for the Beer Gut Tribe!
Next up was a storm the castle and clam at least 2 of 3 objectives type scenario against Chaos. You can't really see them from the photos but the Chaos force was massive compared to the number or Ogres on the field. I think he had something like 50 models to my 12. Trying to fit through the "meat grinder" effect of the gates to claim the two objectives located on the other side proved almost impossible. After taking down the forces of Chaos to just 1 unit and 1 hero the Ogres lost as they only controlled one of the three objectives (even after Stumpy the Giant crammed a chosen of Chaos into his pants and proceeded to beat the crap out of the Chaos general in three sustained rounds of combat). Another very fun game!
Things I learned - Age of Sigmar can be a lot of fun, especially when playing with objectives. Ironguts are just down right nasty, Giants can be cool, Gorgers not so much, and Leadbelchers aren't bad but there are probably better shooting options for the Ogres.
Next time... the sickness descends... a plague of Nurgle?!

Dog Bowl III - Tournament recap.
Late is better than never right??
Well over a week ago Furry and I held our annual Blood Bowl event here in Kalamazoo at the Marmalade Dog WMU gaming convention... the Dog Bowl! This was the third year we've held the event and the second year we've run the build rules which focuses on giving the underdog Tier 2 and Tier 3 teams a fighting shot at winning a tournament (also I hate Elves and tire of playing against Dwarfs). 14 coaches from around the Midwest braved the winter onslaught for three rounds of dog eat dog Blood Bowl action!
This year I brought out the Human team I built alongside my Necromantic and Undead team... the Zlurp-Outcasts! This was the first time I played Humans (ever) and it was a good deal of fun. I tend to shy away from the "boring" teams that aren't made up of fantasy creatures or monsters but my Human team is all Zombies so I can get past the boring aspect.
Roster was something easy to keep track of and play:
Guard on the Blitzers, Block on the two Catchers and Ogre, and Dodge on the Thrower. Light on the rerolls but I figured the amount of rerolls in skills would help make up for that and it did indeed help (though it didn't help failing those skill rerolls all day). Ended up the day with a record of 2/0/1 in a three game tournament which feels like a good outing for my first time with the team. Only loss was to the tournament champion Siggylama who trounced the Outcasts good with his Chaos Pact team (returning Dog Bowl II champions the Frozen Flames).
It was so much fun I am contemplating running another event later this year! Assuming I have time and can find a good space to play/theme for the event. Until next year I leave you with a few photos from Dog Bowl III!

Dog Bowl II Is History!
Dog Bowl II is in the books! It was a great one day event held at Marmalade Dog in Kalamazoo, MI with 12 coaches from Michigan, Indiana, and Illinois representing. The rules were intended to give an edge up to the underdog teams of Blood Bowl and they turned out in force! I brought out my Khemri for the firs time (ever) and came in second to last place (though I was in the running for the Cas award with 11). The final racial breakdown was:
3 Khemri
2 Slann
2 Ogre
2 Humans
1 Underworld
1 Chaos Pact
1 Orc
After four rounds of Blood Bowl action only 4 coaches could take home the illustrious Dog Bowl trophies I so lovingly crafted out of bits of trash and plastic I found around my house a couple days before.

Thanks to everyone who came out to the event and to all my opponents for 4 great games (even my arch-nemesis Valdric... I'll get you next time!!). Highlight of the tourney for me was running a chainsaw through Siggyllama's 3 Chaos Pact big guys in consecutive fashion in game one. Hack had a taste for BIG BOY BLOOD in that game!

Progress Report 2/5/14 - Hair of the dog (stuck to everything I paint).
Another week of sub-zero temps kept me from getting any miniature painting done. I did glue together a couple pieces of plastic I dug out of the trash to make awards for the upcoming Dog Bowl this week.

| Cap, beer thing, and skull trophy. |

| Foam turd in a cap upside down. |
I've since added some primer and paint to these trophies but the paint keeps flaking off and driving me crazy! Not sure if it is the temperature outside (where I prime in my garage) or the materials or a mix of both. Oh well... they don't have to look stellar. I just wanted to have something to give away that didn't cost me anything (because I have nothing to spend).
On the oil painting front I made some pretty big strides this week. My class last week was cancelled due to the bad weather but I came back and attacked the canvas on Monday when I got down to business on the face of my figure.
![]() |
| I had a quick demo on how to better set up my palette. |
![]() |
| This bit on the face is my instructor's work as a demo. |
![]() |
| Blocked in the shades on the face. |

| Began adding some detail in the face and the tie. |
Still a long way to go on this painting but I had a much easier time with the paint after a short bit of instruction from my teacher. I found that my major challenge was too much thinning of the paint and I really started using a lot more paint on the canvas. Something I don't do much of when it comes to mini painting! I'm always thinning that down so much. Also I used a really big brush for this work which is not something I feel comfortable with yet but it was good practice.
Dog Bowl this weekend! I will be playing odd man out. While I had first intended to take Ogres I am letting a friend use them instead and will be bringing Khemri for their first tournament outing and first time on the Bloodbowl pitch with me Coach Randroid! Should be fun!!
